Impact Report from Winterton Federation
The Winterton Federation
Impact Statement.
The Jean Freedman funding ensured that children in Year 4 are able to receive Whole Class
Instrument Teaching as all Year 4 children learn to play the Ukulele. How does this impact on the
music curriculum? Well, through their lessons children have an exciting music experience and are
now able to enjoy the excitement of ensemble playing gaining the skills and knowledge needed to
progress in music.
“I like playing the Ukulele and learning new songs.” – Year 4 child
“I want to learn a different instrument now.” – Year 4 child
“I really enjoyed playing in the church in the Summer Soiree – even though it was a bit scary.!
“Can I join in and learn too?” – Teacher
It has been great to see that some children are further inspired to take up learning another
instrument because they have this experience.
At the Winterton Federation we aim to give our children are varied musical experience and this
funding allowed us to ensure that all children have the opportunity to learn an instrument. Learning
in this type of environment gives children more confidence and self-esteem. Our children have taken
part in a wide variety of singing ensembles in school and in the wider community. Our last two
concerts – Soirees – have been held in the local church.
This has been possible due to the Jean Freedman Foundation and further funding would enable us to
complete the Voices programme to become a singing school and build on the positive enthusiasm.
